Flash Feature! Country Artists Continue to Create Hope In Times of Crisis

With so much uncertainty in the world today, music continues to act as a universal healer; music brings people together, and therefore this Flash Feature consists of a different format that usual, highlighting multiple artists together in unison.

These songwriters and artists are doing their part to heal the world, one song at at time; as always, follow their pages and give them a shoutout if you are impacted by what they’re creating.

Casi Joy, “Poor Angel” – Released last Friday and due out on an upcoming EP, this pulled-back, country pop track comes at a time when everyone is looking out for hope and desperately seeking stability. While the world is in a perpetual state of uncertainty, Joy turns to the angels on her shoulder to keep herself grounded and her head held high. As she writes, “[I’m] searching for meaning / Does everything always happen for a reason…? / Before I fall apart, I get this feeling / That some poor angel on my shoulder is holding it down.”

Through appearances on The Voice, consistent live shows pre-quarantine, and steady Facebook Live shows during quarantine, Joy has built a following of more than 250K followers online.

Jennifer Silva, “I Wash My Hands” – Brooklyn-based Silva composed this over two years ago, but realizes there has never been a more important time to release it. Initially written about how relationships depend on compromise and mutual respect, she relates the song nowadays to mother nature’s combative response to the absense of that same mutual respect. “[Mother Nature] is washing her hands of our abuse and showing us just how powerful she is,” says Silva, elaborating on this song’s reinvigorated symbolism. Silva continues, “As the lyric goes, ‘We can make amends but I’ll still make my demands,’ [and so] I just hope we all listen and make the changes needed for us all to thrive.”

Tara MacLean & Catherine MacLellan, “This Storm” – A veteran of Release Row, MacLellan now teams up with her award-winning-partner-in-songwriting MacLean for the first time to create a piano-driven ballad that speaks to the heart. Showcased above a touching music video of fan-submitted clips that portray a united perserverance through quarantine, the song is a dose of musical medicine. As MacLellan writes, “For me, this song is about connecting. It’s a reminder to have patience and to know that in time all wounds are healed.”

Rayne Johnson, “Same Boat” – An alumnus of Release Row, Ohio native Johnson presents one of his live show staples to try to make sense of and make peace with the chaos everyone is currently living in. Raina Krangle, “My Beautiful Dear” – Krangle’s latest song, though written about her parents, taps into a theme we can all get behind: musical therapy. After suffering a traumatic brain injury less than a year ago, the Canada-based folk singer-songwriter Krangle has turned to meditation and music to recover and look towards a brighter future.

A song that will appear on her upcoming album, Headbangers – A Musical Recovery From Mild Traumatic Brain Injury, “My Beautiful Dear” leverages John Prine-style acoustic guitar to soothe the listener and beautifully narrate a story of love, connection, and hope.

Will Muse, “World in the Way” – A native of Somerset, Kentucky, Muse is releasing his latest single as a collaboration with Steevie Steeves (of the indie-folk trio Towne) on vocals. Celebrating perseverance in a time of hardship, the song blends vocals, electronic percussion and crisp piano accompaniment to create a feeling of strength above weakness. The supporting video, shot at Latitude South Studio in Leipers Fork, TN, demostrates Muse’s raw ability to draw in his audience and deeply connect with the music he creates. Right now his message is clear: “[‘World in the Way’] is meant to give the listener a sense of hope and perseverance. Don’t let the world get in the way of love and humanity.”
